Ganz einfach.
Jahren begonnen. Die Pläne der anderen Vorschlagsprogramme und Discoveries
werden folgen. Zunächst in den INN - dann übertragen ins Kapitel "Routenpläne"

Rajasthan
is a colourful state of India with many splendid monuments, Forts and
Palaces, Tribes and communities with different cultures and a dialect that
changes every 20 miles but the sweetness is unmistakable ! What about to
celebrate your own wedding in original Rajput style here? Arranged by Maharaj
Chandrashekhar Singh of Raoti who is organizing weddings for the Royal
Families of Rajasthan since decades it will be an unforgettable experience
for you and your family & friends.
|
|
Weddings in Rajasthan, especially the desert region
are very colourful and ostentatious and people celebrate them with the same
style and gusto that existed centuries back. The people of Rajasthan are fun
loving and spare no effort in making their marriages a nostalgic event. The
traditional weddings are celebrated with verve and warmth for the families
and guests of both the Bride and the Groom. It is really two families getting
married instead of two individuals !
|
|
The process of the wedding begins with the
bridegroom’s father receiving the photograph and horoscope of the girl to be approved
and tallied with that of the prospective groom. If the boy’s family gives
their approval to the photograph and the boy’s family Guru/Shastriji approves
the tallying of the horoscopes, then a similar exercise is done at the girl’s
end with the boy’s photograph and horoscope being sent to the girl’s family.
If this process goes through satisfactorily, then the boy and girl meet at a
common destination and decide to say “yes” be life partners till death !!!
Ganpati Staphna and Griha Shanti
The Ganpati Staphna and Griha Shanti
ceremonies are very important and are performed at the residence of both the
Bride and the Groom. Normally this is performed a few days before the wedding
but in this case it can be performed a day before the Tika ceremony, as there
is no such thing as a ring ceremony.
|
|
On this day, the Holy Priest performs a Havan
at both the Bride’s and Groom’s residences to propitiate the Gods and an idol
of Lord Ganpati is installed and He is invited to attend the wedding by
officially placing the invitation card at His feet.
Pithi Ceremony
After this, the Pithi ceremony is performed
at both the Bride’s as well as the Groom’s place. A paste of turmeric and
sandalwood is applied on the face as well as feet of both the Bride & the
Groom by the female members/relatives of the family of each and wedding songs
are sung by the family members.
|
|
The Groom wears normal clothes and a safa (turban)
while the Bride wears an orange dress (Rajasthani Poshak) and is brought to
the place of ceremony by four ladies of the family under a silken canopy held
by four family ladies with the help of four swords at the corners. Wedding
music and songs are heard and there is much merriment amongst the ladies,
followed by drinks and meals.
Tika Ceremony
The ceremonies of pre and post wedding are as
important as the wedding itself and each ceremony is carefully planned
according to auspicious times. The first ceremony is the official engagement
or the Tika Ceremony. This takes place a day before the wedding or on the
morning of the wedding whereby the Bride’s father, brothers and other
relatives visit the Boy’s home and amid the chanting of Mantras by Holy
Priests, and giving of presents to the decked up groom. All the attending
members are also formally dressed in their colourful suits, Jodhpuri
Bandhgalas, Jodhpurs (Breeches) and safas (turbans). There is exchange of
pleasantries followed by lunch.
Maira
|
|
Then there is the “MAIRA” Dastoor common to
both the Bride and the Groom but held at each residence separately. This is performed
by the maternal uncle’s family of the Bride/Groom. The maternal uncle arrives
with his family and friends amidst much fanfare, music, band and are received
by the Bride/Groom family. The uncle and his family members present the
Bride/Groom with jewellery and also presents for the immediate family members
of the Bride/Groom.
|
|
This is significant because this is the way
the maternal uncle of the Bride/Groom helps his sister to bear part of the
huge expenses of a wedding. This could also be held a day or two before the
Pithi ceremony.
Janoi
The “Janoi” ceremony is held at the Groom’s
place whereby the sacred thread is given to the Groom on his becoming a
householder. The Groom is dressed in saffron coloured dhoti like an acetic
and a Havan is performed before wearing the thread. The significance of this
is that the Groom has the choice of being an acetic (wearing saffron) or take
up the responsibilities of a married man ! After the Havan a mock attempt is
made by the Groom to run away (from marriage responsibilities) but his
maternal uncle tries to catch him and convince him that he must get married.
This is held on the day before the actual marriage.
Palla Dastoor
|
|
The Palla Dastoor is performed on the
afternoon/evening of the wedding. In this, the Groom sends the jewellery, the
clothes, the shoes etc that are to be worn at the wedding ceremony by the
Bride. The wedding dress is always red in colour. The items are ceremonially
handed over to a responsible member of the Bride’s family, usually an uncle
or a brother and in turn, the Bride;s father gives some (monetary) present to
the Groom’s party, usually boys.
Baraat
The Baraat consists only of male members of
the Groom’s family, relatives and friends. The Groom sits atop a mare or an
elephant and is led by his baraat , whose members are formally dressed in
Achken, Breeches, Safas etc.
|
|
The procession goes to the Bride’s house and
they are welcomed with garlands and spraying of Gulab Jal. The baraatis
follow into a hall while the Groom and his younger brothers/cousins go inside
the house and the place of the actual wedding. At the entrance of the house
(of the Bride), the Groom is welcomed by the Bride’s mother by performing a
welcome “aarti” and the Groom enters by touching his sword to the Toran.
While the Groom and the Bride are busy getting married, the rest of the
Baraat and the Gharaat (Bride’s party) are making merry with music, dance,
drinks and entertainment.
Mandap Wedding
|
|
The actual wedding takes place in a Mandap in
the Bride’s house. It is a typical Hindu wedding but the Bride must have a
veil throughout the ceremony. The Priests perform the wedding amidst the
chanting of Shlokas. Only the women folk are allowed at the Mandap while the
Groom has his younger brother or cousins for help. During the wedding
ceremony, the Bride’s sisters, friends and others will tease the Groom by
hiding his shoes or putting a crackling Papad on the Groom’s seat in the
Mandap. These are all to be taken with a smile and the girls will return the
Groom his shoes on payment of a hefty monetary compensation !!! The wedding
ceremony over, the Groom and the Bride go to His room with the Bride’s
sisters, friends, cousins and a “Muh Dikhai” ceremony is held whereby the
Groom slowly lifts up the veil from the Bride’s face “to see her for the
first time” and give her a present in the form of jewellery. Thereafter they
retire for dinner and overnite.
Bidaai, Grihapravesh & Pagelagni
The next day is the “Bidaai” ceremony and it
is very solemn as the Bride leaves her house forever. Before the Groom leaves
for home with the baraatis, there is a “Jua-Jui” ceremony. In this, the newly
married couple sits on the ground cross legged and a deep ”Thal” (a deep
plate) is placed in front of them containing diluted milk in which there is a
ring, which is to be “won” by one of them.
|
|
|
|
It is a best of three round and whoever wins,
generally “wears the pants” in the house! The Baraat returns after lunch
along with the newly weds and at an auspicious time is the “Grihapravesh” or
the Bride and the Groom entering the house together. After the Grihapravesh
is the “Pagelagni” whereby the Bride and the Groom seek the blessings of all
the members of the Groom’s family by ceremonially touching the feet of all
the elders.
These are the basic ceremonies of a
Rajasthani wedding or a Rajput wedding in desert Rajasthan. If held well, it
is very coulourful and meaningful as each ceremony has some significance
attached to it and its importance cannot be lost.
|
|
